" Wayne & Wayne "
" With Bobby Jean "

" ...Maybe you'll be out there on that road somewhere
In some bus or train, travellin' along
In some motel room there'll be a radio playing
And you'll hear me sing this song.... "

It's funny how things happen in this world, but me and Wayne never would
have thought of looking for Bobby Jean, if it hadn't been for a cop in New
York City. We were hangin' out in front of Madison Square Garden, waitin'
for the first Bruce show to open, when fate took us on a trip that ended
in Cleveland.

We were tryin' to upgrade our tickets, stoppin' and talkin' to every one
who even approached the entrance. I had just made a great deal; our
tickets plus a tape of Bruce singin' Rosie on the toilet.....for two seats
on the floor in Row 22. Wayne was at the other door, "grovellin' for
jailbaits" as he called it. His luck wasn't as good as mine

He returned, proud as catshit, with two ticket sellers, who turned out
to be The NYPD scalper detail . We were arrested and taken to the 23rd
Precint where we were held for most of the night. Our lawyer
finally got us released. I was pickin' up my belongings from the
desk Sergeant and Wayne was teachin' the Detectives how to
use Napster and download American Skin in mp3. The Sergeant
told me that he had been following our emails and that he knew a
girl in Cleveland who claimed to be the "Bobby Jean" from Bruce's song.
He gave me her phone number, and I immediately went to the pay phone.
After verifyin' her identity, I promised to meet her in Cleveland on Tuesday.
We fired up the mini-van and hit the road again.

We stopped to see Sherry's Mom on the way, and we ended up promisin
to buy Bobby Jean a bowling bag and take her out to lunch. She felt
there should be some reward for her tellin' her story. We decided to
meet her at Chi Chi's, in a little suburb on the West Side. The years
must have been kind to her, as she was still, at 50, a very attractive lady.
She was annoyed at Wayne constantly askin' her to dance, but I finally
got her to tell her story....

" I moved out here in 1969, right after I ran out on Bruce. Joined a polka
Club over on Euclid Avenue, and that's where i met my hubby. Only knew him a week or two before we got married. Guess you could say I was on the "rebound". He had been a pipe fitter in West Virginia..but moved up here so he could learn to dance...We soon started our own business, "Billy Ray's Polka Palace".....thats his name....Billy Ray.

Me an Bruce had a good time when we was growin' up....I used to call
him the Cozmic Kid, and I was his Jukeboxgraduate...Things went well
for a long time.....and by himself.......just me an him...things were great!
I really couldn't stand his friends though....We'd go out to a party on a
Saturday night.......and there I would be....in the middle of a group of
people with names like Zero, Blind Terry, Big Bones Billy, Ragamuffin
Gunner and Missy Bimbo. Damn, talk about a dysfunctional group of
friends!!! And all he ever wanted to do was run around on the back-
streets or on the edge of town and watch gang fights. It got to be a bit
much after a while.

We were really close for a couple of years...hung out all the time with each other! Did everything together.....we had the same habits...the same dreams....We liked the same music.....We liked the same bands.. We liked the same clothes!!! I didn't think that was a problem, until one night he showed up at my house, wearin' my angora sweater, poodle skirt and saddle shoes!! That was pretty much the end! I left the next mornin'. Packed my bags, kissed Mom goodbye and headed West.... Never saw the man again!"

While Bobby Jean finished her sausage enchilladas, I asked her about
the song...."Bobby Jean".....did she ever hear it in motel rooms?? Or when
she was travellin' along on some bus or train??? "Never"!, she said!
She strictly listens to Polka CD's and maybe some Billy Joel when she's
feelin' wild...

Wayne sang her the words, as I paid the check, and he told her that
a lot of people think the song is really about when "Little Stevie" left
the band..We were left pondering....whether he's now wearin' Little
Stevie's underwear!!

We said goodbye to Bobby Jean Giniewzki....and Wayne signed up for
lifetime polka lessons, tellin' her he'd be back in September. We headed
back East....toward Freehold, New Jersey......we have a hot tip......that
Maria Espinsoa...(Where are you tonight??) who does a bit part on
NYPD BLUE....is gonna be in town on Friday......
Until Then!!
ROCK ON!!!
