She don't like me, cause I play
in a rock n roll band, And I know
your daddy, he don't dig me,
But he never did understand"

You'll recognize several of the videos (Glory Days, Dancing in the Dark, War) from their MTV broadcast days. Highway Patrolman consists of scenes from Sean Penn's directorial debut, "Indian Runner", which told the story of Joe Roberts and his errant brother Frankie. You'll also be impressed by the solos done by several band members in the "If I Should Fall Behind" video, including Clarence Clemmons.

"We said we'd walk together baby, come what may
That come the twilight, should we lose our way
If as we're walkin', a hand should slip free
I'll wait for you
And should I fall behind
Wait for me".
The long awaited "live album" from the June/July 2000 Madison Square Garden shows is due to be released on April 3rd, 2001. It will serve as the soundtrack for an HBO special, scheduled to be broadcast on April 7th, 2001 at 9:00pm (ET). ( A DVD of the HBO special is also anticipated.) All songs from the release were recorded on the final two nights, June 29 and July 1st, 2000, of the MSG stand, which closed out Springsteen's 1999-2000 world tour. I was fortunate enough to be in attendance for the final show, and it was a performance I will never forget. Two new songs, "Land of Hopes and Dreams", and "American Skin" will world premier on the soundtrack. "American Skin" is the haunting song which refers to the tragedy of the Diallo shooting in New York City by members of the NYPD. He sings of the violence, fear and mistrust prevalent on the streets of America, on both ends of the gun barrel. The song, both heralded and condemned, makes a poignant statement about American society. Springsteen also performs "Lost in the Flood", a tune from his first album, "Greetings From Asbury Park New Jersey". ( I might add, grinning humbly, that I predicted that the song would be played on July 1st).

"This train carries saints and sinners
This train carries losers and winners
This train carries whores and gamblers
This train carries midnight ramblers
This train carries broken-hearted
This train carries souls departed
This train, dreams will not be thwarted
This train, faith will be rewarded
This train, carries fools and kings
This train, hear the big wheels singing
This train, bells of freedom ringing"

Darling where we slept

On September 21st, 2001, a telethon benefit was held in the New York City and Los Angeles for victims of the 9-11-01 terrorist attacks on America. The show was titled, "America-A Tribute to Heroes." Bruce opened the show with "My City Of Ruins", his song about Asbury Park, New Jersey. A very slight modification in lyrics made it a devastating and appropriate tribute to those whose lives were lost. Each performer sang one song, and no one was introduced by name. The DVD also contains the entire broadcast, music and comments made by all guests. It was also released in CD and VHS formats. All proceeds of the concert and releases went to the September 11th charities.
